Amaryllis Kwekerij Ludwig & Co has been founded by the brothers Ludwig. They started with growing and breeding of Amaryllis and Dahlia. In 1955 they have specialised themselves in Amaryllis.
In 1970 the company has been taken over by Leo Berbee & Zonen B.V. They have continued growing and breeding of the amaryllis. Beside this, they have extended the assortment with other types of amaryllis like the cybister and trumpet shaped ones.
From 2002, Ludwig & Co. operates as an independent enterprise with the following activities:
• breeding and multiplication of new kinds of amaryllis (see new varieties)
• production of amaryllis bulbs, for bulb production as flower production
• production of special amaryllis flowers
• trade of a large assortment flower bulbs for pot plants, garden plants and cut flowers.
Currently we have + /- 20 kinds of cut amaryllis in production (cybisters, trumpet, small flowering and large flowering). On all these varieties we have plant breeder’s rights. Our customers have been pleased with the new assortment what we sell via the Dutch flower auctions. Our customers will not buy our amaryllis from October till December, but the season is extended from September till March. 
Exhibitions:
At the Keukenhof (Lisse, The Netherlands) in March 2007, we won the first prize with the variety Rio Negro. La Paz won the first prize there in 2006. In the first week of November 2005, we obtained the highest number of points with our cut flower Emerald at the Vaktentoonstelling in Amsterdam (Hortifair). In 2004, we also won the 1e prize with La Paz. At the Midwinterflora in the first week of January 2005, we won the overall and the 1e prize with Rebecca. During the weekly flower testing of the KAVB, we have received 3 golden medals for our total assortments. The last one was in November 2005. We are very happy with these results. .
